Tui, Native New Zealand Bird

Rotorua is the heartland of New Zealand, spiritual home to the Maori, nature's spa of the Pacific, host to some of the world's most incredible earth forces, adventure and activity mecca – Rotorua boasts an array of experiences that together encapsulate the spirit of this remarkable country.

Our welcome to you is "Rotorua – feel the spirit – Manaakitanga"

Feel the spirit encompasses it all – our cultural diversity, stunning natural environment, awe-inspiring earth forces, sense of adventure, our people, and the spirit of a progressive community.

Manaakitanga is a deep-rooted concept in Maori culture.

It is a challenge, a responsibility upon us as your host to give you the very best of ourselves. It is also your invitation to experience the essence of this extraordinary slice of New Zealand – by day and by night.

Picturesque cobbled streets, beautifully laid-out gardens (we have been voted New Zealand's Most Beautiful City 3 times) and striking Tudor architecture celebrate Rotorua's and New Zealand's past.

An impressive array of cafes and restaurants, bars and clubs offer food, wine and entertainment from all over the world to tempt the palate. Don’t forget to try the hangi, a traditional Maori feast, and sample traditional Maori culture.

A vast array of sporting, cultural and fun events add another dimension to our multi faceted city all through the year. Minutes from town you’ll discover a myriad of forests, lakes and scenic reserves, for hiking, biking or picnicking.

If you are looking for adrenalin- pumping action – Rotorua is the place to be. Our awesome natural setting provides thrills and adventure to take you to the edge.

Here you can, slip and slide down a scree slope inside an extinct volcano then race on a luge tracks on the side of a smaller mountain.

Throw yourself from a bungy tower – or an aeroplane – in true Rotorua style or hurl yourself down white-water rapids by raft or sledge.

Tumble head over heels down a hillside on the Zorb then go for a spin in a jetboat.

For the angler, the lakes and rivers teem with trophy-sized trout that provides sport and thrills. As trout cannot be bought or sold commercially, the only way to sample it is to catch it yourself but that's part of the fun – infact you are likely to find that Rotorua is the easiest place in New Zealand to hook a trout. We can recommend Professional Guides who will provide all the gear plus fishing licence.
